Next Meeting of the F.P. Association

The next meeting of The Gordon Schools’ Former Pupils’ Association will be held at the offices of Rizza’s factory in Steven Road, Huntly, on Monday, April 29th, 2019, at 7 p.m. The items on the agenda for this AGM are still to be drawn up.

David Smart signed the Guest Book (09/07/15). He is hoping that someone may have photographs of 1a girls and 1c girls (1959/60).

Stanley T. Fraser signed the Guest Book (28/06/15). He offers to share a photograph of class 1a boys from 1959/60. (The photograph has now been received. Thank you, Stan Fraser. Please click to see 1a boys - 1959/60.)

The Guest Book has been signed by Willson Raeburn Morrison. In his message he mentions John Anderson, Gordon Beverley and Ann Begg.

On February 11th, 2015, the Guest Book was signed by Jimmy Mason (”... recalling fond memories”) and Robert Wilson, who now lives in London.

Fiona Morrison signed the Guest Book on May 26th, 2015. She was a pupil at The Gordon Schools from 1966 to 1969.

Angela Shearer received her MBE from the Queen at the Palace of Holyrood in June. 

175th Celebrations: Vintage Night

As part of the 175th Anniversary celebrations of the founding of The Gordon Schools, a Vintage Night was held in June.

School Prizes, Awards, Bequests and Bursaries

The Former Pupils’ Association of The Gordon Schools holds in trust and administers a number of school prizes, awards, bequests and bursaries.

School Prizegiving

The following awards are administered by the Former Pupils’ Association of The Gordon Schools:

  • Former Pupils’ Association Medal for Dux of The Gordon Schools.
  • Alexander Watt Prize in Higher Information Systems.
  • Hugh Tait Prize in Higher English.
  • Prize for Best improved pupil in English (year 3 and year 4).

Awards, Bursaries and Bequests

Alexander Watt Bursary

Arrangements are made in June. The criteria for application are:

  • - Applications should be made to ‘The Committee of The Gordon Schools Former Pupils’ Association, The Gordon Schools, Castle Street, Huntly, AB54 4SE.
  • - The applicant should be studying Mathematics in 5th year.
  • - The applicant should submit a letter to the Committee of the Association. The letter should be in the form of a short resume.
  • - The application must be supported by a short note from a member of the staff of the Mathematics Department, confirming the eligibility of the applicant.
  • - Applications should be made to 'The Committee of The Gordon School's Former Pupil's Association. The Gordon Schools, Castle Street, Huntly, AB54 4SE'.

Alexander Cooper Bequest

Awards for the Alexander Cooper Bequest are discussed at the September meeting.These are awarded to three pupils in fifth or sixth year, who have shown ability and who have worked hard.

Student Bursaries


William Will Bequest

This is awarded to a school leaver intending to follow a course in Communication Studies; failing any such candidate, to a pupil with a special interest in Scottish Language; and failing that, to a pupil intending to study English Language.

William Will started out as a journalist on the Aberdeen Journal as it was then known. He later became managing director of Allied Newspapers in London.

RHN Sellar Bursary

This is provided for the benefit of a school leaver intending to follow a course in Engineering or Agricultural Science.

Simpson Bequest

Life membership is awarded to a school leaver, who has demonstrated service to the school.






Ronald Ironside Bequest

Ronald Ironside of Ottawa left a significant bequest to the school.
